It is always difficult to choose five players for such type of article as big teams have many great players like Arsenal. Here I have selected five best defenders out of many top defenders. Four of them are English while one is from Ireland.
Here are the five top defenders of Arsenal.
The 47-year-old Englishman spent two spells at Arsenal first from 1984 to 1986 and second was from 1993 to 2004. Keown who also played as defensive midfielder made more than 350 appearances for the Gunners in his thirteen years of stay at Arsenal.

3. Sol Campbell (2001–2006)
Another English defender is included in this list. Despite of his short stay of only five years as compared to the others, he still deserves to be in this list because of his great services for Arsenal. The backbone of the Invincibles squad played 49 games in the unbeaten 2003-2004 season. The solid giant 6 ft 2 in center back played 197 games and netted 11 goals.

2. David O'Leary (1975–1993)
Eighteen seasons at Arsenal no doubt is a big achievement. O'Leary made 722 appearances in the Gunner jersey which is a club record. He was not the smartest defender nor the best leader and even he was not the part of Invincibles but still he is one of the greatest defender in Arsenal’s history.

· FA Cup – 2
· League Cup – 2
1. Tony Adams (1983–2002)
