The former Liverpool defensive midfielder was strongly linked with his former manager Rafael Benitez who was interested in his services at Napoli while several Premier League sides were also monitoring his situation.
However, the-30-year-old has committed himself to the Catalans till 2018, his buyout clause in a new contract is £81 million.
Mascherano joined Barcelona for €24 million in 2010 since then he has made more than 100 appearances for the Spanish side. He has also won La Liga and Champions League since his move to Spain.
It will be a good news for Barca fans as new boss Luis Enrique is eying to bring old days back once again in the coming season.
Currently, Mascherano is training with Argentina for the coming World Cup next week.
