Arsenal who have not signed any replacement of Thomas Vermaelen are eyeing Basel defender Fabian Schar according to several reports.
Arsenal fans have been waiting for a center-back since the Belgian left the Emirates Stadium. But asusual Arsene Wenger did not show any hurry in signing a new defender though he signed a teenager Calum Chambers from Southampton.
Now Wenger has started his search for the January Transfer Window and with news suggesting that FC Basel 22-year-old centre-half will be the next new player to join Arsenal.
Metro reported that he is keen to leave Basel and is set to join any top European club. The only other side who are targeting him are Borussia Monchengladbach from Bundesliga. They are showing serious interest and will give Arsenal a tough time.
The north London side have already been going through injury problems and the fans are expecting new faces in January.
Schar is 22 only and might become a regular from next season as World Cup winner Per Mertesacker has crossed 30.
The Swiss defender has played 54 games for FC Basel since 2012. He was also the part of Switzerland squad in the World Cup.
