Ched Evans is believed to have been in talks with Sheffield United over a deal during his time behind bars, with manager Nigel Clough and co-chairman Kevin McCabe regularly visiting him.
After finding out about a potential deal for Evans, Jean Hatchet, a self proclaimed radical feminist set up a petition to try and stop the deal. The online petition has been extremely popular and has already amassed more than 100,000 signatures to try and scupper the deal.
Evans has always claimed his innocence claiming consent was given by the then 19-year-old women, who says she was too drunk to remember.
Evans girlfriend Natasha Massey has stood by his side during this whole ordeal and is determined more than ever to clear his name. Massey has even hired Russ Whitfield who runs a private investigations firm in her attempts.
PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor has had his say on the matter, backing Evan’s return to football.” I didn’t know there was a law that said once you come out of prison you still can’t do anything,”
Hatchet agrees in parts with Taylor as she mentions in her petition statement that Evans does have the right to return to work, and rebuild his life after prison.
Returning to a lavish lifestyle, being well paid and a hero to Sheffield United fans is the problem that Hatchet and over 100,000 members of the general public have with United offering him this deal.
