The former Manchester City midfielder joined the San Siro side in 2012. De Jong who has capped 81 times for his national side Netherlands has signed a three year deal.

AC Milan paid £3million for his services back in 2012 summer. The 30-year-old has made 75 appearances for the Italian side.

Milan finished on tenth spot in last season’s Serie A campaign. Despite of not being in Champions League the Dutch midfielder is happy to spend few more years in Milan.

De Jong played 29 Serie A games last term for AC Milan.

Premier League side Manchester United was keeping tabs on his situation as the boss Louis van Gaal was keen to sign his countryman.

However, now the reports suggest that they are now targeting Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Also, Bundesliga side Schalke and Dutch outfit Ajax were also said to be interested in his deal but the player remains committed to AC Milan.

AC Milan officially tweeted: “Nigel De Jong stays with us until June 30th, 2018!”

Meanwhile, AC Milan have only signed defender Rodrigo Ely on a free deal. They are yet to announce their second summer signing.
